Word puzzles to tease your students' brains...

As the school year draws to a close, many teachers are looking for activities that are both engaging and meaningful. While games and revision tasks certainly have their place, sometimes it's worth giving students something a little different – a challenge that encourages them to think creatively and approach language from a new angle.

Recently, I came across a collection of language puzzles designed for B2/C1 learners. These puzzles go beyond traditional vocabulary and grammar practice. They require students to spot patterns, make connections, think critically, and occasionally take a leap of logic. In other words, they encourage the kind of flexible thinking that language learning thrives on.

The end of the year can be a perfect moment to step away from the coursebook and offer students an opportunity to solve, discuss, debate, and collaborate. Language puzzles not only provide a welcome change of pace but also remind learners that language is more than rules and structures – it's a tool for problem-solving, creativity, and discovery.

If you're looking for a low-preparation activity that combines fun with intellectual challenge, language puzzles might be exactly what you need.

Here are the two sets you can use freely: Word puzzles
