What is Phrasal Verb Charades?

Phrasal Verb Charades is a classic game with a linguistic twist! Players act out sentences containing phrasal verbs without using words, and others guess the phrase or sentence. It's a brilliant way to reinforce understanding of these tricky combinations while making language learning exciting.

How to Play:

  1. Prepare the Sentences
Print out sentences featuring phrasal verbs (e.g., "I want to cut down on sugar this year").

  2. Divide into Teams
Split the group into two or more teams, or let individuals take turns acting and guessing.

  3. Act It Out
One player draws a sentence and acts it out without speaking. For example:

    • Mime drinking soda and pushing it away to act out “cut down on sugar.”
    • Pretend to lift weights or run to act out “take up exercising.”
  4. Guess the Phrase
The other players or teams have a set time to guess the phrasal verb or complete sentence.

  5. Score Points
Award points for correct guesses and see which team becomes the ultimate Phrasal Verb Champion!

Why It Works:

Charades encourage movement, creativity, and teamwork, all while making phrasal verbs memorable. Whether you're an English teacher or a learner, this activity guarantees a fun-filled session.
